From Couture to Condominiums: A Look at Some Truly Fashionable Addresses

With an eye for style and design, it’s no wonder that many fashion labels move into designing home goods and furnishings.  It’s also no surprise that a few would even go beyond that, making their mark in residences and hotels. Today we look at a few hotel residences designed by prominent fashion and jewelry designers, where their style philosophies have been translated into real estate.

Palazzo Versace, Dubai

The legendary house of Versace launched the first fashion branded hotel in 2000 with Palazzo Versace on Australia’s Gold Coast.  Its newest development, Palazzo Versace Dubai is planned for completion in 2013.  Palazzo Versace brings the sophisticated product range of Versace to a single destination and allows purchasers to live the Versace lifestyle – one imbued with Gianni Versace’s commitment to luxury and beauty.  The 169 exclusive residences, located in the condominium wings known as Ala Destra and Ala Sinistra (translated as right and left wings), will include one to six bedrooms ranging from 1,555 square feet to 14,245 square feet, including single-story and duplex residences and majestic penthouses.  All condominiums will provide stunning views of the surrounding area with balconies and terraces and will have access to the hotel’s services and amenities, including indoor and outdoor pools, spa, fitness center, Italian restaurant and pasticceria and of course, a Versace boutique.  Rich ornamentation is carried through every element of design with mosaic tiling, vaulted ceilings with detailed moldings and sculptured art pieces throughout the public spaces and gardens.  According to the most recent construction update in June, the signature Versace medusa head has been installed on the building’s façade.

Armani Residences, Dubai

Having already established himself as a successful furnishings designer with Armani/Casa, Giorgio Armani launched Armani Hotel and Resorts in 2005, with its flagship property in Dubai opening in April of 2010.  Located in the distinctive Burj Khalifa, the world’s tallest building, Armani Hotel Dubai is the first in a series of hotels, resorts and residences designed by Armani, marking the fashion designer’s debut into the world of hospitality.   With every aspect of the hotel and residences personally designed by Giorgio Armani himself, Armani Hotel Dubai is a truly unique lifestyle experience. Every element of design is deliberate and a reflection of Armani’s style philosophy.

The 144 residences are located on floors 9 through 16 and are made up of one and two bedroom suites ranging from 100 to 200 square meters.  The rooms of each residence are created using panels and rounded partitions to encourage seamless movement throughout the home and provide an alternative definition of space.  With custom finishes, furnishings and accessories by Armani/Casa, and clever use of lighting to highlight contours and textures, the residences offer restrained opulence and sophistication.  The latest advances in smart home technology are employed to provide security, temperature, curtain, lighting and air-conditioning control.

Bulgari Residences, London

Located in the heart of London’s ultra-chic Knightsbridge neighborhood, the Bulgari Hotel in London opened in May 2012, with residences atop the hotel sharing the brand’s aesthetic for timeless glamour and understated elegance. Precious materials and innovative artistry translate the legendary Italian jewelry brand successfully into contemporary luxurious residences.  The third hotel under the Bulgari brand, the London location was also designed by Antonio Citterio, offering a unified style with existing hotels in Milan and Bali.  Each location uses silver as an underlying theme to pay tribute to the brand’s early heritage as a silversmith.

The exquisite residences enjoy first-class services and amenities and a luxury hotel atmosphere with cigar shop, cinema, spa, and quality restaurants and bars.  With a limited number of whole ownership residences for sale, a home in the Bulgari hotel is truly a rare offering.  The last remaining penthouse is located on the 7th floor, sized at 9,260 square feet with views of Hyde Park.

Other fashion brands including Missoni, Gucci and Roberto Cavalli have signed on to design residences and hotels around the world.  Much like the clothing and jewelry made by these luxury labels, fashion branded hotel residences can garner a steep premium.  So expect to dig deep into your Versace pockets if you wish to live at these extraordinary addresses.
