Kempinski, the venerable European hotel chain founded in 1897, is growing its luxury hotel brand worldwide, having already expanded its portfolio across Europe and ventured into emerging markets throughout much of Asia. Since retreating from Latin America fifteen years ago, Kempinski is again becoming a player in the market, building a pipeline of new hotel properties – reported to include Brazil, Cuba, and the Dominican Republic.
But Kempinski’s first announced property part of this strategy has been announced in Panama, and includes a branded residential component. The Kempinski Residences Emerald Bay La Guaira Panama will be located directly on the Caribbean Sea. Around one to two hours east of Panama City and its international airport, La Guaira is known for its beautiful sandy beaches and coral reefs.
The 75 residences are part of a mixed-use resort that will be anchored by a new 100-room Kempinski Hotel, and includes various sporting, entertainment and dining options. At the resort’s center is a central plaza with restaurants, boutiques and entertainment options, as well as a lavish swimming pool and spa area. The properties are due to include Beach, Laguna and Ocean Club Apartments, as well as Private Residences, all situated within a natural reserve and surrounded by rainforest with the majority of residences will be situated directly on the sea.
The project is being developed by Two Oceans Group, a prominent luxury developer committed to high levels of quality. Ulrich Schwark, Director of Two Oceans Group commented “The Kempinski brand further strengthens the value of this development offer and ensures that we provide our guests the highest levels of service.”
The hotel and residences are intended to open simultaneously in 2015. Until then, we will be debating which we prefer – the natural beauty of the beaches or the five-star service at the pool.
