In this week’s “Layouts We Love” column, we take a closer look at The Residences at the St. Regis Resort in Bahia Beach, Puerto Rico, where we admire one of the six home plans from three architects that make us long to purchase this Caribbean holiday home.
The recently opened St. Regis Bahía Beach Resort and Residences sits on a majestic oceanfront 483 acres of lush native forest and introduces an unrivaled dimension of bespoke services and hospitality to Puerto Rico. With two miles of sandy beach and a Robert Trent Jones, Jr. championship golf course – the resort community offers the legendary St. Regis Butler & Concierge Services, a Remède Spa®, an esplanade of beach front pools and renowned Chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten first restaurant venture in the Caribbean “Fern.”
Located on their own private island surrounded by lakes and the golf course, the initial release of 26 estate homes introduce an unique “bespoke hospitality” to Puerto Rico. The homes are situated on ½ to 1 ½ acre lots with residences ranging from 5,000 to over 10,000 square feet. Six plans were developed by three architects in the “plantation style” to offer both choice and design integrity in the resort.
Our personal favorite is the Maria Isabel designed by Young & De La Sota Architects, which integrates indoor and outdoor living spaces in a 5,214 square foot four bedroom, four full and two half bath single-level residence. One of the most distinct features is the open air courtyard on axis between the front door and living room, creating a unique opportunity to embrace nature upon arriving home. The courtyard also becomes the focal point for the home’s circulation as it separates the public, entertaining areas from the more private bedroom wing.
The open Living/Dining Room features exterior pocket doors that lead out to the wrap-around terrace – allowing a gracious flow and transition between indoors and outdoors. The wrap around terrace is also well designed, extending the living room, dining room, kitchen and bedroom wing all out into nature to take advantage of the open views and tropical climate.
The kitchen is perfectly laid out with direct a separate banquet breakfast room and island bar opening to a family room with access to a service hallway to the garage, a maid’s and laundry room with their own private entrance.
The bedroom wing features four en-suite bedrooms with walk-in-closets and windowed bathrooms. The master suite is generously-sized with a private balcony, wet bar, large bathroom with dual water closets (one complete with bidet) and an expansive walk-in-closet.
This is certainly the time of year where we long for Caribbean retreats. And this home at the St. Regis Resort in Bahia Beach has everything we could want in our holiday home.
