Snow Report: Checking the Powder At These Top Ski Resorts with Branded Residences and Hotel-Condos for Sale

As the ski season enters March and the snow gets wet and heavy, some amateurs may have had their fill of the white moguls for the year while die-hards are still searching out fresh powder. Whether you cite global climate change or not, there is a never-ending race to the top as choosy skiers insist on resorts that are best located to take advantage of the ideal ski climate and optimal snowfall.

Those interested in buying a resort property in a ski region, such as a hotel-branded residence or hotel condominium, are well-advised to check the late-season snow reports to determine the length of the prime season that they as owners – or their guests and tenants – will be eager to enjoy. Taking a look at those top ski destinations with hotel-branded properties for sale, here are’s top picks for late season snow, based on data provided by

The Alps
With no snow reported over the last week, we have to declare a tie between Verbier and Andermatt. With skiing up to 3300 meters (10,900 feet), Verbier is one of the highest Alpine destinations with up to 102 inches (2.5 meters) of powder on the slopes. Slightly lower in elevation, Andermatt is closer to Zurich International Airport and boasts 46 inches (117 cm) of snow at the base and a whopping 163 inches (over 4 meters) at the summit. For those looking to invest in these snow-covered destinations, W Residences Verbier and The Chedi Andermatt are both under construction, the latter of which promises “guaranteed snow.” By the looks of it, this is a promise they can deliver.

American Rockies
Colorado is home to numerous legendary ski destinations, but Breckenridge seems to have the best ski report this late in the season. Having received 17 inches (43 cm) of fresh powder in the last week, there is a total of 57 inches (145 cm) on the slopes, with skiing up to 13,000 feet (nearly 4000 meters). The new Fairmont Residences Shock Hill in Breckenridge are now offering pre-construction pricing on its one- to three-bedroom whole ownership condominiums from US$1 million.

Canadian Rockies
Not surprisingly, Whistler tops the charts in the Canadian Rockies. Its slopes are packed with nearly 10 feet (2.8 meters) of snow, with 45 inches (114 cm) of snow in the last week alone. The Residences at the Westin Whistler and Four Seasons Private Residences Whistler are two of the top resort projects where buyers can own private residences, although both are completed by their developers and resale opportunities rarely come available. One-bedrooms at the Westin start at CAD119,900, while the Four Seasons offers one-bedrooms up to CAD199,000.

East Coast
On North America’s East Coast, Quebec’s Mont Tremblant has just been dusted by 16 inches of fresh snow in the past week. Despite its relatively low elevation, the conditions sounded great according to skier reviews. The Residences at Le Westin Resort & Spa Mont Tremblant were completed by the developers about five years ago, but some resale opportunities do arise from time to time. A one-bedroom hotel-condo that sleeps six is now on the market for sale for CAD$249,000.
